How are your soaps made?

With love of course! Our soaps are handcrafted from scratch in small batches using the cold process method. We start with food grade oils and fair trade butters, add pure essential oils or fragrances, dried herbs or botanicals, and mineral clays or micas. The process takes several weeks to make your soap. We strive to make sure that most, if not all, of our ingredients are ethically and sustainably sourced, cruelty-free, vegan, and phthalate free.

What are the benefits of handmade soap versus commercial soap?

Handmade soap offers several benefits compared to commercial soap, which often contains synthetic ingredients and preservatives. Here are some key advantages of handmade soap:
  • Natural Ingredients: Handmade soaps are typically made from natural oils, butters, and essential oils, which can be gentler on the skin compared to the synthetic ingredients found in many commercial soaps.
  • Glycerin Content: Handmade soaps often retain glycerin, a natural byproduct of the soap-making process. Glycerin is a humectant that helps draw moisture to the skin.
  • No Harsh Chemicals: Many commercial soaps contain sulfates, parabens, and other harsh chemicals that can irritate the skin whereas handmade soaps usually avoid these additives.
  • Eco-Friendly: Many handmade soap makers prioritize sustainability, using eco-friendly packaging and sourcing ingredients responsibly. This can be a more environmentally conscious choice compared to mass-produced soaps.
  • Artisan Craftsmanship: Handmade soaps are often crafted in small batches, which can result in higher quality and attention to detail. This artisanal approach can lead to unique and aesthetically pleasing products.
  • Support for Small Businesses: Purchasing handmade soap often supports local artisans and small businesses, contributing to local economies and promoting sustainable practices.
  • Variety of Scents and Textures: Handmade soaps can come in a wide range of scents and textures, often using natural fragrances and additives like herbs, spices, and exfoliants, providing a more enjoyable bathing experience.
While handmade soap can be more expensive than commercial options, many people find the benefits worth the investment, especially for those with sensitive skin or specific skincare needs.

How do I make my soap last longer?
  • Keep the soap away from water. Your soap will disintegrate faster if you keep it sitting in water.
  • Let your soap air dry. Allowing the air to dry out the bar will make the soap harded and less crumbly so you can enjoy it for longer.
  • Store your soap in a well draining dish. This will help your soap dry out between uses.
  • Use a washcloth instead of your hands. Using a washcloth, loofah, or poof will produce and retain a better lather than your hands.
